THE daily challenges of caring for terminally ill family members can be very stressful to many care givers.

many lonely clients and carers who have no one to talk to

care can take many forms, but it boils down to two

throughout the 12 hours were effective communication and listening, grieve and bereavement, 6 dimensions of

massage for touch care and cancer.PPCS is looking forward to activating home care

difference to our clients and family.

The following are volunteers’ feedback on the

time has taught and made me realize so much about palliative care. Volunteers were able to learn massage techniques and related topics of compassionate touch by Team PPCS. This training ensured volunteers were given adequate education on compassion and respite care. I was very inspired by the volunteers from Taiping who attended all the sessions. We also had a 13 year old participant who showed big interest in compassionate touch. It is encouraging to note that compassion can start at a very young age among our children. We realized that Communication was

to offer compassionate and respite care to palliative patients. Beside role plays on communication, we practiced hand and foot massage on each other during our training and were able to massage a few patients who participated on the last day.”

Jane Lee, Volunteer

“Volunteers have to be mindful when visiting patients and must have the skills to pick up on non-verbal cues. Compassionate

is relaxing to both parties in giving and receiving.”Lay Har, Volunteer

“My experience from this compassionate touch program was splendid and very informative. For a boy my age, I could understand a lot because the information was made simple and brief. I could tell that ’compassionate touch’ does not only talk about our hands on the patient but also how we reach the hearts of patients. The massage therapy techniques were very useful. I tried it on my parents and it not only gave them relief from their aches and pain but also de-stressed them. It was an opportunity for me to show my love for my parents. In that 4 weeks, we were equipped with some basic tools on compassionate care and were made to realize that kind words and appropriate body language was part of compassionate and respite care.

Dance Centre
