② Dead Toddler Cloned The sect-linked company that claims to have produced two human clones said a third would beborn in Japan as early as Monday. A Japanese representative of the pro-cloning Raelian Movement said he had been told by the company, Clonaid,that the baby boy would be born at a secret location. Most of the world's scientific academies called yesterdayfor an international convention to ban human reproductivecloning but allow "therapeutic cloning" for medical research. Their statement — signed by 63 national academies — wasdesigned to head off calls for a ban on all forms of humancloning when the United Nations debates the issue nextweek. A resolution proposed by Costa Rica and 40 othercountries, including the US, would ban the production ofcloned embryos even for research.According to the Royal Society, only six academies refused to sign: Germany, Switzerland, Poland, Slovenia, Spain andthe Vatican.
