The Southern Africa Project, co-sponsored by our Center, the Africana Studiesand Research Center of Cornell University, and the Centro 'de Estudos Africanosof the Universidade de Edouard Mondlane, in Mozambique, is issuing a series ofpamphlets on the contemporary situation in southern Africa. The first, now out,is by Allen Isaacman, "A Luta Continua ~ ' Creating 'a New Society in Mozam'bique."It is available 'for $2.00. A form is attached. ' The second, due to a~pear bySeptember IS, is by Sean Gervasi, r:The United States and the Arms EmbargoAgainst South Africa~ Evidence, Denial, and Refutation." '

8. At ,the request of the Governor of the State of New York, the Center prepareda report on ~1.ibraries and Our Civilizations" by Immanuel Wallerstein and John,Stephens. 9. The Center agreed to be ~n ~s~ciated" Institution of the "Project' on Socio-Cultural Comparative Evaluation of ,Development Alternatives in ,a Changing World"of the United nations University. 'The Director attended a Human and SocialDevelopment Program Seminar in l1exico City on ~lovember 6-11, 1977.

SERIES: STUDIES IN ~10DERNCAPITALISM

The Fernand Braudel Center for the Study of Economies, Historical Systems,

and Civilizations and the Maison des Sciences de l'Homme have launched a joint

enterprise, under the title Studies in Modern Capitalism/Etudes sur Ie capitalisme

moderne. The series is published by Cambridge University Press. The Inter-national Editorial Board is composed of Maurice Ayroard, Jacques Revel, ImmanuelWallerstein.

The series is devoted to an attempt to comprehend capitalism as a world-

system. It will include monographs, collections of essays, and colloquia

around specific themes, written by historians and social scientists united bya common concern for the study of large-scale, long-term social structure andsocial chan~e.

The initial titles are the following:
