New Faces At Riverside (stay tuned for more next
month)
Hi! I’m Barb Hart, and I will be the new second grade teacher. Many of you may not know me yet, but you may recog-nize my husband, Paul Hart. If I haven’t met you yet, I am excited to meet you and excited to be back in the classroom. I’m originally from Springfield, Nebraska, just outside of Omaha to the southwest. My par-ents still live there, but my two sisters currently live in Chicago and Okla-
homa. I received my Bachelor of Science in Elemen-tary Education from Creighton University and com-pleted my Master of Science in Elementary Education at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. I taught first grade for five years at the school I attended when I was younger. I have been working in the Development Office at Creighton University the last several years, and I am eager to return to working with students in the classroom. Paul and I live in Oakland with our cat, Tanner. When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, listening to Paul perform in his bands or on his own, traveling, being crafty, enjoy-ing a good book, and being outdoors (hiking, riding Seadoos, boating, and waterskiing). I look forward to
meeting all of you!
Hello! My name is Aman-da Brandon and I am the
5-12 band director here at Riverside. I am joining the district
after having taught ele-mentary music for three years at Underwood. I am a native of Treynor and
graduated from Augusta-na College with a degree in Instrumental Music
Education. In my free time (ha!) I play trombone with the Oma-ha Symphonic Winds and Iowa Western Community
Band. I also volunteer regularly with the Omaha Per-forming Arts. My husband Tate and I enjoy wood-working projects and watching new releases at the
movie theater. I am happy to have had an opportunity to work with 30 of our young musicians this summer. I am amazed
at the level of the talent and potential of these stu-dents and look forward to a great year of music mak-ing and performing. Thank you for welcoming me to
the district.
Jr.-Sr, High School News David Gute, Principal
Welcome back! It is hard to think about school starting in just a few weeks. I’m sure most families haven’t thought about all of the things they need to get done
before August 19th.
TIME CHANGE: The high school has traditionally had an 8:30 – 3:30 schedule. We are going to switch it to an 8:20 to 3:20 schedule this year. This is to help teachers that work in multiple buildings to have more time to transition in the middle of the day. If they start a little earlier at the Jr. – Sr. High School it allows a little more transition time to the other buildings for their schedules. This will not affect the
bus schedule nor will the other buildings be adjusting their times.
We had a great year last year with the addition of the Jr. High students to this building. They transitioned smoother than I could have imagined and I’m looking forward to another year working with the students and staff. We also continue to offer more courses and have more programs than most small schools around us. Please stop in and talk to the guidance office about all those opportuni-
ties. Have a great end to your summer.
At the end of the school year, Riverside said farewell to several teachers and staff who decided to retire. Those teachers retiring were Susan Bentley, Jennifer Elliott, Linda Wax, and Randy Washburn. Staff members who retired included Deb Forristall, Marilyn Mickey, Liz Blatny, and bus driver Gayle Perkins. Several staff are going on to other positions. They included Kayla Vanderhorst, Pete Langenhan, and Emily Brown. Faculty and staff gathered in Chautauqua Park for a lunch and a farewell . We will miss
you and thank you all for your time that you gave to the Riverside Community Schools.
In addition to the ladies pictured at the left, Riverside welcomes other new personnel to its communi-
ties. We hope to have photos and bios in our next newsletter.
