Purposes and main tasks of the space complex

04/19/23 Ganymede mission2

Main destination of the space complex, composed of two spacecraft (orbiter and lander) is carrying

out of researches of Jupiter and it’s natural satellite Ganymede.

The tasks of the orbiter:entrance to the orbit with the specified parameters around Ganymede;carrying out of distance researches of the satellite and it’s ambient space;mapping of the Ganymede surface, selection of landing area for the lander;transmission to the Earth of scientific data, images of the surface and telemetry data;retranslation of the data from the lander.

The tasks of the lander:entrance to the orbit with the specified parameters around Ganymede;carrying out of soft landing to the surface of satellite in preliminary selected area;carrying out of contact researches of the satellite;transmission to the orbiter of scientific data, images of the surface and telemetry data (nominal

channel);transmission to the Earth of scientific data, images of the surface and telemetry data (redundant

channel).

Launch vehiclesseparated launch of orbiter and lander with the LV

of “Proton”/ “Angara” class;upper stage– “Breeze-M”;fairing with diameter of payload zone not less, than

3800 mm.

Mass budgetthe initial mass of the spacecraft after separation

from the upper stage – not less, than 4000 kg;the mass of the orbiter on entrance to the orbit

around Ganymede – not more, than 950 kg;the mass of the lander after landing to the surface

– not more, than 800 kg.

Power budget

The summary electrical power, provided for all

systems of orbiter and lander – not less, than 70 W.

Ganymede characteristicsdistance to Earth ~ 640 mil. km;FFA – 0,146g;orbital velocity – 10,880 km/s;temperature on the surface – 70…152 K;surface – ice crust up to 950 km;atmosphere – none.
