In a survey of secondary prophylactic therapy after myocardial infarction by Eccles. et al. [see Inphanna 770: 9, 19 Jan 1991], diabetes mellitus was one of the contraindications to beta blocker therapy. However. 2 recent retrospective studies have stated that these agents may be beneficial in such patients [see Inpharma 696: 10, 22 Jul 1989 and 1npharma 729: 12, 24 Mar 1990]. As it is unlikely that an appropriate prospective, randomised trial in patients with diabetes will be undertaken in the near future, ' ... I suggest that we do not regard diabetes as a contraindication to the use of f3 bloclurs after myocardial infarction'.
