DESCRIPTION

The sucessor to the XOLO Q1010, the Q1010i offers near-identical specs, but sweetens the deal with an 8MP primary camera with a Sony Exmor R sensor. Priced in the sub-Rs 15,000 segment, the Q1010i has its work cut out for it in terms of competition, and will have to contend with big names like the Moto G and Nokia Lumia 630. Here's a quick review in pictures.

Quality finish in a sleek frame

• Encased in an 8.3mm frame, the phone is a sleek, rectangular slab with a chrome strip running along the edges.

• It skips the onscreen controls for Android navigation buttons below the display

• The matte-finish back panel is removable

• There’s also a free flip cover included in the box

The snapper is the heart of the phone…

• The Q1010i features an 8MP primary camera with a Sony Exmor R sensor, f/2.0 aperture and 5-element lens

• The camera app is quite basic, offering HDR, Panorama, Scene Modes and Smile detection

• You can also choose colour effects, white balance, ISO and exposure

• The 2MP front camera can capture decent selfies, but lags when it detects movement

…with good results that lack the wow factor

• The primary camera can capture videos in 1080p

• Macro shots are sharp with a nice depth of field effect, but landscapes lack detail when zoomed in

Pricing and verdict

“The XOLO Q1010i offers commendable features and build quality, and the prospect of an Android KitKat update is the cherry on top. The lauded primary camera isn’t all that it’s made out to be, but is still better than a majority of smartphones at this price range.”
