It can be an unnerving and frustrating experience when you try to turn on your computer as normal, but it fails to respond. This could be a reboot problem or something more serious. At other times you are dealing with the simplest connectivity problems where a cable or two is loose.

Start with the obvious when trying to work out what the problem is. The last thing you want to do is to call in a technician only to discover that a few touches on your connections could have switched on the computer.

If you are lucky the computer will have given you signs that it is failing. These include regular freezing and unscheduled shutdowns. If you see these warning signs then the onus is on you to ensure that they are acted upon appropriately.

Many of the remedies that are required are not really that complex or expensive. It is just a case of you knowing what the problem is, so that you can go back to your data bank of ideas to resolve it.

On the other hand, the problem could be so serious that it requires a complete overhaul of the motherboard or the CPU in its entirety. At this point you have to make a decision as to whether it is worth your while to continue doing repairs or whether a new computer would be the ideal solution.

The costs of replacing your computer systems have gone down considerably as a consequence of mass marketing, so you will probably be able to find something suitable on the market.

Examining the possible problems and solutions

Always have your troubleshooting guide stored in a safe place, so that you can go back to it in case you face issues. The user manual will also be useful, because it tells you about the constituent parts for the PC and how you might handle them if they are failing.

Even within the software category, you need to ensure that you are following the right instructions. There are subtle differences across different operating systems such as Linux, Windows and Macs.

Even within a single category such as Microsoft Windows, you will have versions and releases that call for slightly different troubleshooting techniques. For example, you will need to read up about the procedure for Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, 8.1 and 10 depending on the latest upgrade that you have placed on the system.

Try to save as many files as you possible can. That means detaching disks and attachments that contain your backup data. Even the technicians advise this before they begin work, because with computers there is always a risk that the data will either be lost or corrupted. The vast majority of problems are relatively straightforward and you can resolve them within your home. However, it is better to call for help rather than attempting repairs that will cause you more problems in the future.
