1. Follow Design Blogs and be a part of an Online Design community:

You cannot be a well-rounded graphic designer even after a graphic designing course without following design blogs and joining a design community. This would afford you the opportunity of being abreast with the new design trends and also help you solve issues which you may come across while carrying out your graphic Design job. 2. Find the right Design software that works for you:

Adobe Photoshop is about the commonest graphic designing software and is the heart of most graphic designing courses, but you don’t necessarily have to use Photoshop, if it doesn’t soothe you. No one cares about the process of design apart from the student and his/ her institute, every other person concern themselves with the finished product. You can use Corel draw, illustrator, InDesign, Quark Xpress or even Xara. All these software have their strengths and weakness and only a graphic designer can choose the one that personally soothes him the most.

3. Build a design library:

As a student or a professional graphic designer, you would be doing yourself a lot of good by being a design collector. Design is a totally creative process, and is not in black and white, there are different fields of thought and ideas that birth different designs. A graphic Designer should be open to new ideas and have a lot of design work in his library. This would expose the designer to the creative processes of other designers, leading to a better designer. The design library would also be a very useful tool for inspiration. A good graphic design library includes

• Collection of seriff/ sans seriff fonts, script fonts, OTF special character based fonts and Dingbats.

• High resolution images and other royalty free photo stocks library.• Library of Photoshop Brushes, Gradients, Shapes, Image curves, Action and

Textures.• Library of layout templates inclusive of stationary designs, brochures, catalogues,

annual books, coffee table books made in InDesign and other similar applications.• Students should also need to like facebook pages of designers and design

companies to keep them abreast of technology and to get new updates.

4. Attend Lectures, Seminars and Festivals:

This can never be over emphasized; graphic design training doesn’t start and end with a graphic designing course in Delhi or anywhere else in the world. The Designer has to constantly expose himself to design festivals, design competitions, seminars, shows and galleries. This would help to network as a designer not only to improve the designer’s taste but also to help get design jobs.
