HYDE

Page 2: Hyde summary

HydeVery natural colour

scheme to match the vast open space. Shots of the landscape with

clever use of mirrors to emphasise the masses of space and play with

lighting and reflections. A lot of use of water

both in the indoor pool and out across the

stretch of lake water. The contingency of

colour through the grey water matches the sky

and walls and is contingent with the

pale, washed skin tones of the actors.

HydeThese images illustrate

the use of mirrors to show reflections of the

actors with very few direct shots. The rocks and stone flooring are

both used as a dark backing to the actors in

various shots but as a whole the colours used

are all dark and washed. The shot of

the man on the rocks is empowering and shows

very relaxed, open freedom which can be

seen in other music videos in this genre as

an image of tranquillity.

HydeThese shots are

examples of where the colour tones become

more feminine and warm with the intimacy

of the actress. Again the shots are playing with reflections and

water. The bottom shot shows the girl looking alone and lost giving a feeling of open space

and emptiness. The use of the iconic red colour

contrasts with the washed white room,

skin and clothing. The same 2 actors are used

throughout.

HydeThe music video

experiments with the use of lighting-

presumable natural sunlight. This gives the

images a very warm feel and the lit skin feels intimate and

connects the audience. They boast very clever

camera work and angles. The storyline is quite loose and is open

to interpretation but doesn’t entirely fit the narrative of the lyrics.

It’s more of a compilation/ montage

of emotive shots.
