Our Thriller OpeningA young girl is walking home and is texting and listening to her music ( the music will be audible to the audience)in contrast to this there will be a lot of use of cross cutting to a man rummaging through a house looking for something. The girl then comes home at night to find that her house has been broken into. However, nothing is stolen, and it appears that somebody is looking for something specific. The intruder in the house is in fact her dads DEA agent friend who is planning to kidnap the girl because she knows about his affair with an underage girl. In despair, she rings her dad and he asks “Are you sure that there’s nobody in the house?” As she says no, someone appears behind her in the background. This is used here because it is a thriller code and convention and is used to deliberately differentiate between the thriller and horror genre. A loud bang alarms the girl, so she hangs up the phone and hides in a cupboard while the person in the house begins to look for her. Her dad rings back, giving away her position. The girl sees the mans face walking towards through the crack in the door. The scene ends with her screaming. The rest of the film goes on to unravel who the girl kidnapper was, our opening was criticised for being to like taken however that is the type of film genre we have modelled our thriller on. So to be told our film is to much like the blockbuster smash hit Taken is like criticizing a girl for looking to much like Scarlet Johansson. However we have taken the constructive criticism on board and slightly altered our narrative.

Overall Vision

The rest of the film is set two months later. The dad is the hero in the film who is trying to find out where his missing daughter is. The dad’s best friend and work colleague appears to he helping him. However, it is revealed that it was him in the house who took his daughter, and was leading him further away from finding her. This is because he never wants him to find out that it was truly him who took his daughter to stop her from revealing the fact he was having an affair with an underage girl.

Locations & Costumes

We have decided to film in a house at night to add to the evil and unsettling nature of the opening of the film.

The villain will be dressed in dark clothes, as black and other similar colours that are connotations of evil and malevolence.

The girl will be dressed in normal clothing to emphasise the ‘normal person in an extraordinary situation’
