WORK ENVIRONMENT

CREATING A MOTIVATING WORK
ENVIRONMENT
Dr. Philip H. Levy is the Founder and President of PHL HP Consulting
Group, Inc., a firm that helps companies develop effective
leadership teams and corporate cultures. Through discussion groups, one-on-one interviews, and surveys, Dr. Philip H. Levy
strengthens client companies by enriching their work environment.
CREATING A MOTIVATING WORK
ENVIRONMENT
In order to create a motivating atmosphere, an employer should
make a diligent effort to praise accomplishments as often as
possible. When an employee makes a mistake, an encouraging
boss should opt for a solution-based approach to feedback rather
than placing blame on one individual. Constructive questions, such as, “How might you handle a similar situation next time?”, can
inspire employees to make improvements without being
discouraging or embarrassing.

ENVIRONMENT
Involving employees in the decision-making process can also
enhance corporate culture. To describe this approach, Dr. Levy
coined the term, "participatory management." In addition to
ensuring team members that their ideas are welcome and
valuable, such open discussions may lead to a more innovative work environment. In addition, giving small, unexpected rewards
and organizing company celebrations can also create a
motivating, cohesive company culture.
CREATING A MOTIVATING WORK
ENVIRONMENT
Above all, it is crucial to treat all employees with dignity. While
praise and recognition are earned through accomplishments,
respect should be standard practice in a healthy work environment.
