The market has improved substantially and there is

every sign that the growth will continue in 2014. There should be more opportunities available and companies will be working hard to attract and retain the best health and safety professionals.

It’s important to make the very best of what you can offer and take advantage of the improvements in the market.

First and foremost make sure that your c.v. is up to date and is presenting your skills and experience in the best light. Take some advice,

including from a specialist recruiter to make sure that your c.v. is capable of getting you interviews and is going to differentiate you from other appli-cants. It needs to be professionally presented, tailored to the role for which you’re applying and to include strong, relevant examples.

To make sure you keep up to date with new roles, read the safety press and register with websites to receive notifications as new jobs become available. This helps to make sure that you don’t miss out when the right job becomes available. Use reputable, experienced recruit-

ment consultants to get access to roles that you won’t find anywhere else. They’ll also be able to give you advice about your cv, the state of the market and what else you can do to find the right role. Use your network, as many roles will be filled through relationships and without advertising. Make sure you have a strong on line presence, on LinkedIn and elsewhere, so that employers can find you easily.

There are still no shortcuts. The more people know about you and the easier you are to find, the better the chance of finding the right role to progress your career in 2014.
