Invented by a Cork man? Invented by a Cork man?

Tim O'Reilly (Irish: Tadhg Ó Raghallaigh, 1954-) was born in Cork, Ireland. He is the founder of O'Reilly Media (formerly O'Reilly & Associates) and a supporter of the free software and open source movements. He is widely credited with coining the term Web 2.0.

• New way of working and communicating which takes the benefits of the internet onto a different / higher level

• Creative and collaborative• Users add value • Technology that allows people to achieve more

by working together than they can alone

But …• Some of the language is a barrier – the geekiness

needs stripping out – and we need tourist phrasebooks not Web 2.0 to English dictionaries

• What is it?The future!• Benefits?- The power lies with everyone not just one person to edit or change

a medium. - You don’t need to be an expert in Dreamweaver!• Disadvantages?- Clients don’t understand that you have to sacrifice some functionality for easy access – eg design may be lost over

accessibility• TCC use?Improving internal communication especially with people working

remotelyCollaborative work spaces with clients (eg project specific or

external wiki)
