Having the complete 'package'

So you believe that you have an excellent product that is ready to be sold in markets around the world?

Having a great product and believing in it is only a part of the whole equation to its worldwide success. When it comesto taking your product and brand global there are so many things for one to consider such as:

Apart from all of these things there is another key component that many companies looking to head West fail to give alot of attention to, something that can add immeasurable value to a product, namely product packaging.

Product packaging is a pretty powerful representation of your brand and, if executed properly, has the power to swayconsumers' buying decisions. In this two part blog I will share the best product packaging tips to help Chinesecompanies on their way to truly providing consumers abroad with the the complete 'package' when it comes to theirproducts!

1) Know who your core audience is

THIS IS what your packaging design and decisions should be based on! After all, the packaging of your product is thevery first thing that potential customers are going to see when they enter a store. Ask yourself who your idealcustomer really is and work around that. It is critical that you have an intimate knowledge of the customerdemographics of those that are most likely to purchase your product so you have the best chance of catching theirattention and making a sale!

2) Focus on the benefits of your product

This goes hand in hand with really knowing who your ideal customer is. Many companies like to focus on the featuresof a product instead of how people might benefit from it. By displaying how your product will benefit consumers onyour packaging you position your product as a solution to their pain points, and this is where the real value of yourproduct lies.

3) Pay attention to the spelling

This may seem like a no-brainer, but you will be surprised at how many Chinese companies are still failing when itcomes to the copy on their packaging and the grammar on their manuals. Language mistakes detract from theperception of quality and add to the perception of your company's product being just another Chinese knock-off. If youwant your products to be a success abroad you have to ensure that the correct language is being used. Don't rely onGoogle/Baidu translate to help with something so important, enlist the help of copywriting professionals so yourproducts get the 'right' message across!

4) Scope out your competition

When it comes to packaging knowing what your closest competitors are working with will go miles to helping youimprove your own packaging design. Compare your design, look at what materials are being used, take an objectivelook at what you believe they are doing right (and wrong), think of ways how your packaging can add more value toyour product, and use all this information to design something that will help you stand out from the rest!

5) Use the best quality materials

Your package is the vessel of your product and as such companies shouldn't cut corners (even to those on a budget)to help them save a couple of bucks. Poor quality packaging for a great product is like trying to convey affection bypresenting someone with jewelry in a cardboard box. If you truly believe that your product is as amazing, or evenbetter than all your competitors out there, you should ensure that you use the best quality materials available to reflectthat!

Take heed of these product packaging tips, they will help you to strike a chord in the hearts of consumers when yourproduct makes its way across the seas! Join us again next week for part 2 of the best product packaging tips witheven more tips on helping your brand go global!
