Why did P6 version numbers jump to version 15.1 (Why not call it P6 8.5 ??!!)

Module/Feature Differences – Moved Features

User and security administration settings are now only available from P6 Web interface

Enterprise functions (EPS View, OBS configuration) are now only available in P6 Web interface Note: Codes and User Defined Field config screens are available in both P6 Pro and Web interfaces

Scheduled Job Service configuration is now only available in P6 Web interface



Module Access Name Changes from 7.0 to 15.1

Note: All module access is now assigned through P6 Web interface (in User Access screen)

“Progress Reporter” module renamed to “Timesheet”

“Team Member” module access now gives access to new Team Member Web interface

“Project Management” module renamed to “P6 Professional”

“Web Access Projects”, “Web Access Resources”, “Web Access Portfolios” module names renamed to simply “Projects”, “Resources” and “Portfolios”

“Enterprise Reports” and “P6 Analytics” module names added, allowing access to BI Publisher Reporting and P6 Analytics Reporting functionality

New “Contributor” module name allows access to limited areas of Dashboards, Project Workspaces and activities

The Upgrade Process See “Best Practices for Upgrading Primavera P6 EPPM” in P6 15.1 documentation library

Ensure your planned software deployment versions are compatible with the P6 Tested Configurations document found in P6 EPPM 15.1 Documentation Library.

Before upgrading: Make a copy of your 7.0 (or later) database using Oracle db export/import, verify the copy is valid by connecting P6 and logging in, then proceed with the upgrade against the copied DB.

If upgrading from 7.0, allow the installation wizard to create NEW Weblogic domains for 15.1. Do not attempt to upgrade an existing P6 7.0 Weblogic domain.

After upgrading, run the Primavera database table stats gathering scripts, found in <P6InstallFolder>/database/scripts/common/aux_script.

Run appropriate smoke tests and user-acceptance tests against upgraded environment.



Planning Your Job Services Deployments Use multiple job services deployments

Don’t combine heavily used services on single machine

Give job services exclusive use of machine or VM where possible

Run load tests to ensure sufficient memory & CPU resources are available

Don’t allocate too many threads per job

Always use dedicated job server for Publication services
