The course

● Developed with the help of the Money Advice Service and funded by Comic Relief.

● OCF have also been funded by Comic Relief to evaluate the Look After The Pennies- Online' course between now and the end of August.

● To analyse whether the course and intervention has enabled older learners to:

- Improve their knowledge of computers and the internet.- Learn good financial habits.

● To produce an engaging analysis report comprising research gathered to be given to Comic Relief at the end of the project.

To find out:● Do older people need a tailored service that

directly addresses their age group and their circumstances?

● By integrating internet use and financial literacy, will this lead to greater personal financial benefits for older people?

● Support learners with the Look After The Pennies Course.

● However best it fits in with your sessions, or maybe a new session?

● Existing or new learners.● Sessions just for older learners or mixed

ages.● Our evaluation will hopefully blend in nicely!

Evaluation Participants

● Involve 100-150 people in total.

● 75% in lower age bracket (50-74 years)

● 25% in higher age bracket (75 years +)

The Course Evaluation

● A qualitative approach to reveal the social impact of the Look After The Pennies course on the quality of life of older people.

● A usage study - MI, plus interviews/surveys.

An ethical approach

● An ethical study approach will be abided by throughout- participant consent, research transparency, accessible dissemination and data protection.

A chance for more in-depth views too

● 5 learner case studies.

● Participant consent will be gained in order to conduct and film longer interviews to capture particular learner's stories and to provide material for a short project evaluation film.

Data Collection: A Four Stage Process

1. Centre Baseline: Workshops this afternoon: Group discussion.2. Learner Baseline: Short learner interviews/surveys at centres with 100-150 learners.3. Learner Impact: Short follow-up survey either by telephone, online survey or centre visit: individual or focus group.4. Centre Impact: Short follow-up online survey to all centres using course.

16th May 2013 Launch of Older People's Network and Look After The Pennies Course

- Centre baseline collection

May-June 2013 - Learner baseline interviews/surveys at centres

June 2013 - Learner and centre baseline data written up

July-August 2013 - Learner impact interviews/surveys and Centre impact surveys completed

August 2013 - Learner and centre impact written up: Final Report

1. What are the demographics and circumstances of your older learners?

2. What are their motivations to learn at your centre?

3. What are their computer and online skills, and levels of confidence like? Do you feel you can support them with this?

4. How about your older learners' financial circumstances. Do they manage their money?

5. What sources of information and support (online and offline) do your older learners currently use/get in terms of financial advice and money management?

6. Centre role: Do you feel you can support/signpost your learners at present for financial advice? What are the FINANCIAL and SOCIAL implications for your learners if you can't?
