Your Software Company

12

You work in software development in a large retailer. The systems have been there for many years and working practices are ‘traditional’. Your bosses regard Agile as a bit of a fad that might work for start-ups, but certainly doesn’t in this world..

Some of you have experienced Agile at other companies with mostly positive results.

1:3 – Large batch sizes of features

2:2 – Developers and testers working separately

2:3 – Finding bugs manually, work queuing for tester

2:1 – Delegating to the development team

3:1 – Batching up a release

3:2 – The release process

3:3 – Unpredictable support demand

In your team, discuss who will take acting roles in the game and choose characters. The rest of the team will play active observer roles, which are equally important.

The actors should read the script of the act and discuss the scene before they play it out. You have free hand to improvise and add to the scene, just have fun!...

The observers should read the 8 types of software wastes and discuss what it means to them with regards to the act. Your role is to observe the act, and identify the instances waste you see as one of the 8 types on the “Waste Grid”.

Write a post-it for each waste instance and place it below the relevant type. It can be, that a waste instance will belong to several types, it is OK.

Facilitators – refer the team to the Instructions handout in their envelope.
