What is intelligence in buildings?

Pertaining to the ability to do data processing locally;

SMART: An intelligent terminal that can edit input before

transmission to a host computer.

The use of networked technology, embedded within

architecture to monitor and control elements

of the architecture for exchange of information between

users, systems and buildings.

What has helped the move to get Smart

IPv6 has a vastly larger address space than IPv4. This

results from the use of a 128-bit address, whereas IPv4

uses only 32 bits. The new address space thus supports

2128 (about 3.4×1038)

From another perspective, this is the same number of IP

addresses per person as the number of atoms in a metric

ton of carbon.

Creating a universal language

The biggest barrier to integrating information from facilities

scattered across your network and around the globe has been

communication. Our EnNET middleware enables you too take

advantage of a universal source of information. Now, your

building controls systems can speak the same language as

your existing asset management systems.

Systems that speak to

each other, no matter

where they are

Real time „everything‟

The raw data of how many

people are occupying a space

in real-time will allow the

precise alignment of

occupancy and energy use,

and create new metrics for

space planning

Real time energy awareness and management

Internal and

external customers

are demanding

organisations to be

energy proficient

Energy conservation measures will move to be monetised in line with targets. Increased

pressure to provide sustainable action and processes

Residential and office intelligence

Wirelessly connected to both utility suppliers and home management

Measure instantaneous energy and water consumption

Better demand side management

Storage can become far more efficient

Energy Targets and global agenda

Government targets and Global initiatives are top of agenda

“20% Reduction in Carbon footprint by 2012”

“Energy consumption reduced by 7% per employee

“Emissions halved by 2015”

“Achieve climate neutral business dealings”

Added benefits of being Smart

Aesthetics and not just functionality

On top of the functional side, many

architects and engineers are also very

keen that future intelligent buildings are

also better places to live and work in:

They should be “safe and secure” but

also “comfortable and make us feel

happy and valued.”
