• We may be “stuck” with an annoying individual at work or at home.

• It’s easy to let a challenging person affect us and ruin our day.

• Mr./Ms. Know-It-All– He knows everything and tells

you exactly how right he is/was/will be at any topic.

• The Cubicle Invader– The Cubicle Invader has one

mission: to invade your personal space at all costs.

• The Office Bully– He has some form of authority

and uses it as a weapon. The Bully is the worst of all the characters you'll meet.

• The Gossip:– The Gossip knows everything

about everyone and makes it their mission to share all that information.

• The Loud Talker:– He shouts when using the phone or

talking to people.

• The Stud:– The Stud walks into a room

moving in slow motion, like a rock or film star.

• The Best Friend:– This person will follow you to the copy

machine, ask if you want to get coffee, email you pictures or funny articles without any common sense.

• The Email Ranter:– He is mild-mannered and inoffensive in

person, but once they get behind a keyboard, they become the most influential, powerful, humorous, and creative mind.

• Mr./Ms. Do-You-Know-Who-I-Am?– He is famous because his parents did

something cool or because his grandparents founded a company a half-century ago.

When you feel angry or upset with someone, before you say something you might later regret, take a deep breath and

count slowly to ten.

Benefit: maintain self-control. Avoid escalation of problem.

How:

We need to keep our composure; the less reactive we are, the better we can handle

the situation.

As the saying goes: “you can’t fly like an eagle if you hang out with turkeys!”

When dealing with annoying people, be diplomatic and keep a distance.

Benefit: more peace of mind and we can reduce the risk of friction.

How:

Remember that your time is valuable, don’t waste it by trying to change or convince a

person.

The point is to remind yourself that people do what they do because of their own issues and life problems. They have a

problem not you!

Benefit: Concentrate energy on problem-solving.

How:

When you feel offended by someone’s words, come up with multiple ways of viewing the situation before reacting.

When appropriately used, humor can shine light on the truth, disarm difficult behavior,

and show that you have superior composure.

How:

Disarm unreasonable and difficult behavior with detachment.

Studies show that many bullies are victims of violence themselves, when confronting bullies, be sure to place yourself in a safe

position.

Benefit: reduce harmful behavior, increasing confidence and peace of mind.

How:

Bullies pick on those whom they perceive as weaker, so as long as you remain

passive and compliant, you make yourself a target.
