What is Google Penguin….?

Page 3: Google Penguin Update 2013

Google Penguin is a code name for a Google algorithm update that was first announced on April 24, 2012. The update is aimed at decreasing search engine rankings of websites that violate Google’s Webmaster Guidelines by using now declared black-hat SEO techniques involved in increasing artificially the ranking of a webpage by manipulating the number of links pointing to the page. Such tactics are commonly described as link schemes. Unlike PageRank, however, Google has announced all updates to this algorithm to the public.

Ranking…..

The Google Penguin Update aims to reward high quality content websites, to penalize websites with spam contents, recognize duplicate contents, demolish websites which are over-optimized by using web spam techniques with an objective to bring more traffic to their website and give them higher ranking. Penguin Update will never affect websites which are using pure white hat SEO tactics that could help to change for the improved way of searching. It will give healthier search result and will better make the high quality websites by giving them higher ranking in SERP -

Google’s Matt Cutts was announced the second update of Google penguin on May 26, 2012 that impact 0.1% of English-Language Searches

Penguin focuses on web spam tactics used to improve search rankings for low-quality websites. Keyword stuffing, paid links and low-quality links were among the main practices targeted by Penguin. The initial rollout of the algorithm came in late April.

GOOGLE PENGUIN 2.0

Penguin 2.0, which was released more than a year later, went much deeper and looked at links pointing to your inner pages as well. This Penguin update was actually the 4th release but dubbed Penguin 2.0 because there were major changes to the way it worked. It still targeted the same kinds of link spam as Penguin 1.0 only going deeper. It affected around 2.3% of English language queries.

GOOGLE PENGUIN 2.1

On October 4, Google released the latest update of the Penguin algorithm, Penguin 2.1. We believe that Penguin 2.1 made good on Google’s promise to start devaluing upstream links. Even though it is expected to affect less than 1% of queries, I believe it will have a larger impact on SEO than Google states.

WHAT TO AVOIDA go-forward SEO strategy should avoid acquiring inbound links that

qualify for any of the following:Overuse of keyword-targeted anchor text – over-optimization of money keywords in anchor text is a definite red flag for Penguin.

Low-quality guest posts – poorly written content with little traffic/engagement value linking to your site will not fuel it with authority. If this is done regularly, it will certainly signal Penguin.

Article directories – submitting to article directories will not only inflame the issue of having many links from the same source, but having links from all that duplicate content is not going to provide any value.

Advertorials –  posts that say “sponsored” or “advertisement” and contain follow links (no-follow links are OK but won’t pass PageRank) are a clear violation of Google’s quality guidelines and make it easy for their crawlers to pick up on paid links.

SAFELY IMPROVING OFF-SITE SEO

Here are some safe ways to improve the authority value and therefore organic performance of a site without making it susceptible to Penguin attacks:

Content marketing – publishing high-quality content that will provide real value to consumers, and is relevant to your business is a great way to generate healthy links.

Natural anchor text – stop using keywords in anchor text; rather use anchor text as a directive to find more information.

Relevant context – only generate links from pages (and sections within the pages) highly relevant to the content of the destination page.

(NOTE)

The most important thing to keep in mind to ensure safety from Penguins is to avoid going for the “quick wins” when it comes to link building. Any tactics employed to increase a website’s authority should aim for long term success. The latest spam technique that can improve rankings because Google hasn’t caught on yet is dangerous ground and it is inevitable that they will catch on eventually. If you are looking for long term success, your SEO strategy should focus on just that.
