We see a lot of cars here at the agency, and one of the most obvious signs of a car's age is how cloudy the headlights are. While they certainly look nicer when clear, it's also a safety issue because clean headlights will give you better visibility at night.

Next time you're washing the car, use a bit of toothpaste with a rag and scrub your headlights. You'll be amazed at how quickly and easily the years of murkiness wipe away.

1) Use Toothpaste to Clean Your Headlights

There's no replacement for the quality work of a professional body shop, but for clean dents that don't have any major paint damage you can sometimes pull them out with a plunger. If you have trouble getting suction for the plunger try getting the area wet so to create a tighter seal and you'll be able to pull harder.

2) Use a Plunger to Pull out Dents

Hopefully we're a bit late with this tip as I don't think anyone here in Riverview wants to see another freezing cold day until next winter, but if you're having trouble getting the key to turn try using a bit of hand sanitizer. The alcohol in the hand sanitizer should help free up the lock without causing any damage. And when you're done you'll know there's no harmful bacteria growing in your car door!

3) De-ice Frozen Keys with Hand Sanitizer

This is only a temporary fix, but if you find yourself with a broken fan belt you may be able to wrap panty hose around it to keep the important parts of the engine moving long enough to get yourself to the repair shop. If you're not sure how the panty hose should wrap around everything do a search on Google Images on your phone for a picture of your vehicle's engine with a properly installed fan belt.

4) Panty Hose as a Temporary Fan Belt

Don't ask us how it works, but baby oil can do wonders for getting that sticky stuff that remains on your window after you try to peel a sticker off of it. Rub in the baby oil, let it soak in and then use a rag to rub it in circles. Before you know it you'll have a clean window again.

5) Baby Oil to Remove Stickers

We certainly wouldn't recommend this as a permanent fix on a brand new car, but if you're driving an older vehicle with a scratch in it and you know you're not going to pay to have it professionally fixed, nail polish can help. Since it's sold in hundreds of different shades you can find one that will match your vehicle and it should also help seal the scratch and prevent the damage from growing even bigger.

6) Nail Polish for Paint Scratches
