Well it's a new year and here at ŠKODA that means new car models. So the showroom is busy with happy customers collecting their new cars. 2013 was a very good year for Gordon Lamb ŠKODA & we're hoping for a repeat of that success in 2014!!

The Octavia has already won the 'Best Estate' in consumer motoring website Car Buyer's 'Car of the Year' awards and both the Estate and Hatch models are finalists in the National contest. Only seven of the original 30 cars made it to the shortlist. The ‘Car of the Year’ test drives for the final will be held in February; the award ceremony is to take place in early March 2014 at the International Motor Show in Geneva. So we've all got our fingers crossed for the results.

It's not the first time we have won an award for our models. As we read in our last issue; the Yeti won the accolade for the most satisfying car to own by UK drivers for the third year running. So following on for that run-away success we now

have delivered into our showrooms not one new Yeti model but two!!

For the first time ever, this compact SUV is now available in two different variations: as the elegant and stylish city model and an adventurous off-road ‘Outdoor’ variation. Both designs of the new ŠKODA Yeti feature a new front and rear, new alloy wheels, fresh interiors, new ‘Simply Clever’ ideas, maximum functionality and additional engine/transmission combinations.

Also starting this year off with a bang we now have the Rapid Spaceback. The Rapid Spaceback is a great addition to this class in that it combines ŠKODA’s good practical characteristics with the popular hatchback shape. Sporting the new ŠKODA design, the Rapid Spaceback has a fresh, dynamic and individual appearance. It is a compact car with a sporty chic, spacious and practical, ideal for young people and families and I think it's going to be a very popular model.

A fresh and spacious interiorThe inside of the Yeti is just as striking as the outside, and can be personalised with a choice of upholsteries, colours and inserts, new fabrics and patterns for the seat covers as well as new decorative trims for the dashboards. In no other compact SUV will the passengers sitting in the back have as much headroom as in the new ŠKODA Yeti Outdoor (1027 millimetres). The boot capacity isn’t too shabby either, offering 405 litres of space with the rear seats up, and a massive 1,580 litres with the rear seats down .

Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG), available in both 6-speed and 7-speed versions, guarantees smooth and rapid gearshifts resulting in maximum utilisation of the potential of the engine’s torque.

For the first time on ŠKODA range, a rear-view parking camera is available as an option on the new Yeti. The camera is positioned on the tailgate handle and provides a visual of what is behind the car, in order to make any parking manoeuvre effortless.

In vehicles equipped with the optional KESSY (Keyless Entry, Start and exit system) the driver can lock and unlock the car as well as start and stop the engine without having to insert or even handle the car key.

The Columbus navigation system with DAB features a 6.5" colour display with touch-screen, voice control function and includes a 30GB hard drive.

The Bolero radio has multitude of functions, such as a reader for SD or MMC data cards, the ability to play CDs as well as files in MP3 and WMA formats.

Parallel parking and bay parking in the Yeti is now easier than ever thanks to a the latest generation of ŠKODA's award winning Park assist.

With a press of a button, the system will begin searching for a parking space in a line of cars or obstacles. When a suitable space is found (the car's length + 60 cm is all the space needed), the car will steer itself into the space whilst the driver controls the pedals. The system will now also steer the car out of a line of cars from it's parking space.

The optional 12 speaker 'Sound system' with a digital equaliser and 12 speakers provides excellent sound reproduction for an enhanced acoustic experience.

Maxi-DOT comes as standard across the Yeti range. Maxi-DOT,with it's larger display, details fuel consumption, average speed and distance until the fuel tank is empty, and also has the ability to display phone, audio and navigation data too.
