Aixam is an industrial firm located at Aix-les-Bains (Savoie) and Chanas (Isère), in the Rhône-Alpes region.

It has shown consistent growth since the company was founded and has moved onto higher ground with the development of its European market. Thus, between 1986 and 2002, the production capacity increased from 3,000 to 10,000 vehicles, attaining a record level of 15,500 vehicles in 2007, prior to the world economic crisis. For 2009, our level of production is at 11,200 vehicles, with steadily improving prospects for 2010, based on plans for 12,000 cars, which represents a growth rate of more than 20 % compared to 2002.

In 2009, with a network of more than 130 dealers in France and 600 throughout Europe, Aixam Mega, with nearly 43 % of market share, is solidifying a position as French and European market leader that it has held since 1987.

1975 THE FIRST “NO-LICENCE” CAR IS PRODUCED (AROLA).

1983 THE BIRTH OF AIXAM : AROLA IS BOUGHT OUT.

1984 THE FIRST “NO-LICENCE” AIXAM : Aixam markets its new “no-licence” car, built to totally revised specifications (speed : 45 km/h).

1985 THE FIRST TQM : AIXAM adds to its range, launching its 1 st TQM (speed : 75 km/h – licence : A1, A4, AT, AL, B1 or the “road user licence” delivered before 1/04/58). Through equivalent rating, all category A, B, C and D licences are recognised.

1988 SUCCESS IN THE HEAD-ON CRASH TEST : AIXAM is the first and only manufacturer to have a “no-licence” car approved in a Crash-Test (vehicle standards) at a time when legislation did not make this compulsory. Since then, AIXAM has developed its policy of putting user safety first and insists on all its vehicles going through the crash test.

1989 AIXAM COMMERCIAL VEHICLES : A new range of commercial vehicles comes out (TQM) : 500 cm3 engine.

1991 THE FIRST TWO-CYLINDER ENGINE : Once again, AIXAM makes the headlines by

launching the first vehicle with a two-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine.

1992 BIRTH OF THE MEGA TRADE NAME : The company diversifies with the creation of a new French vehicle trade name : MEGA.

The aim is to demonstrate the expertise and dynamism of the AIXAM team, which also designed the MEGA racing vehicles.

The members of the AIXAM team have used their know-how and skills to fulfil the dream of any car manufacturer : 3 wins in the Andros Trophy (1994, 1996 and 1998), and second place in the Paris-Dakar in 2000, an outstanding result for a first attempt.

Even with a diversification programme like MEGA, AIXAM manages to strengthen its position as leader of the “no-licence” market. BIRTH OF THE FIRST-GENERATION MEGA.

MEGA TRACK : A prestige 395 CV vehicle is launched – Mercedes V12 – 4 - wheel drive.

1996 MEGA MONTE-CARLO : The Monaco company MONTE-CARLO AUTOMOBILE is bought

and its private saloon car is developed further.

1997 AIXAM RÉVOLUTION : Aixam uses new technology to revolutionise the world of the “no-licence” car :

- Using aluminium for the vehicle structure and floor - Fitting extra equipment - Reducing prices significantly

For the first time in France, Aixam exceeds a 40 % market share with 41.23 %. European “no-licence” market opening.

1998 AIXAM MAC : “No-licence” Cabriolets are launched.

1999 2nd GENERATION MEGA : The MEGA 5 CV is produced : modular, removable roof, available as a Saloon or Commercial vehicle.

2000 AIXAM ÉVOLUTION : The new silent AIXAM is launched. Once again, AIXAM moves ahead on SAFETY by making its vehicles undergo all tests used on cars (rear and side impact crash test, chicane iso, speed chicane and slalom).

2002 THE LARGEST QUADRICYCLE ON THE MARKET : Aixam gives its light quadricycles the size of a heavy quadricycle and keeps to the weight limits imposed by European legislation. Aixam is the only manufacturer to offer a preview extension to its range with the creation of the Pick-up and Minivan.

2003 MEGA : A range of ultra-light commercial vehicles is designed for local authority and commercial markets…

Page 9: Dossier Stampa Aixam

2004 RANGE INNOVATION : Aixam launches its range of berlins A721, A741 et A751. Ultramodern design, widened internal space, well-kept finishes and conception even more sure are the trump cards of the range.

2005 SCOUTY : First cabriolet with removable hard top, positionnable in the chest is launched.

2006 SCOUTY R : A sport version of SCOUTY is launched.

2006 CROSSLINE : PARIS MOTORSHOW. CROSSLINE is launched.

2007 Launch of the A721 Sport, bringing a breath of fresh air to the short saloon category.

2008 Aixam celebrates the 25th anniversary of its founding. For the occasion, Aixam launched a new line of vehicles : City, Roadline, Crossline and Scouty R - its convertible ; all new faces promising greater technical and aesthetic improvements.

2010

Established in 1992 within Aixam, thanks to the admirable vision and drive of the people who manage it, the Mega brand has shown endless proof of its technical skills, strength of purpose and creativity in designing extraordinary cars.

Our prestigeIn 1992, Mega developed the striking Mega Track, an all-terrain, grand tourism sedan with unmatched capabilities and space, equipped with a V-12 engine.

Then, in 1996, Mega bought out the Monte-Carlo Automobile company of Monaco and created a special, new grand tourism vehicle.

In competitionSince its creation, Mega has also stood out in races on ice tracks. For this reason, during the 1992-1993 season, Mega was able to invite major cham-pionship drivers to pilot its Mega Ice cars. In no time at all, they were winning the Andros Trophy and then the 24 Hours in Chamonix. In fact, 1996 was our first Andros Trophy victory, with François Chauche. Philippe Gache and the Mega “Ice” carried off two more championships in 1996 and 1998.

In an entirely different world, the 2000 Paris-Dakar Rally, AIXAM-MEGA, a first-time entrant with its Mega “Desert”, piloted by Stéphane Peterhansel, achieved an honorable 2nd place finish.

The French car manufacturer Mega has forged a solid reputation in the world of motor sports and competition.

12 KEY FIGURESA base to build on.

Page 13: Dossier Stampa Aixam

Our entry into the European market in 1997, thanks to changes in European legisla-tion that incorporated French laws on “vehicles not requiring a driving licence”, led to a subs-tantial increase in production.

Aixam then decided to invest heavily in new technologies and new means of production, and currently uses them to manufacture its vehicles using cutting-edge automotive sector techniques.

As a direct result, there has been a noticeable drop in production costs, which was passed on to consumer prices,

just as we were making great strides in terms of the quality and reliability of our vehicles.

Now firmly established in various countries of the European Community : Austria, Belgium, Finland, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Sweden, Switzerland and others, Aixam continues to promote its export market.

Just as in France, Aixam is firmly out in front as the leading brand of mini-cars, with 11,484 cars sold in 2009.

Page 15: Dossier Stampa Aixam

This extra precaution means that Aixam customers drive safe, comfortable vehicles with the greatest peace of mind. To further enhance this aspect, Aixam takes into consideration both active and passive safety measures for all of its cars. :

ACTIVE Safety MeasuresThis means the ability to avoid accidents based on roadworthiness and driver assistance devices, as well as achieving flawless handling so that the vehicle instantly and comprehensively obeys all of its driver’s commands. Aixam’s product lines feature top-quality equipment : wide-vision windscreens, a high-efficiency windscreen defroster, a 3rd brake light enhanced with automatic activation of the emergency flashers in the event of a sudden stop, LED running lights, halogen headlights, a lowered centre of gravity, ABS braking, wheel spacing increased, etc.

PASSIVE Safety MeasuresThese consist of providing maximum insulation and protection for vehicle occupants in the event of a collision. To achieve this, Aixam engineers draw on the full range of technical solutions : front-end, side and rear-end crash tests, reinforced seat belt anchors, 2-notch safety locks, and a fuel tank made of high-strength polyethylene. For the ultimate requirement we are the only ones to use « an extruded aluminium structure with a wide diameter ». The front ends of Aixam chassis frames include crumple zones to dampen the effect of an impact. Based on the reinforcing components used in its construction, the passenger compartment acts as a protective shell. Both the driver and passengers are thus assured of maximum protection. The body is designed using the most modern and technologically advanced materials. The ABS composite used is absorption-dyed, multi-layered and fully recyclable, offering first-rate aesthetics that last for many years. And all this does not take into account its mechanical features for absorbing shocks. In addition, this substance reassumes its shape following dents and dings, leaving no deformations and requiring no repair.

17 REGULATIONSAIXAM : upholding European standards.

Page 17: Dossier Stampa Aixam

EUROPEAN REGULATIONS

Since 1992, the Common Market has become an internally border-free area in which freedom of movement is guaranteed. The European Community Council has thus issued construction regulations that apply to every type of vehicle sold. This is how quadricycles have been defined :

• Lightweight quadricycLes

Quadricycles are vehicles whose net weight is legally limited to 350 kg, that are equipped with a 4 kW (5.6 hp) motor and that operate at speeds of less than 45 km/h. They are classified with mopeds and may be driven with or without a driving licence, depending on the regulations in effect in each European country.

• heavyweight quadricycLes

These quadricycles are vehicles whose net weight is legally limited to 400 kg for vehicles designed to transport people, or 550 kg for the transportation of goods, and whose motor has a maximum power rating of 15 kW (approximately 20 hp). They are similar to tri-cycles and motorcycles.

FRENCH REGULATIONS

• Lightweight quadricycLes

in order to drive a lightweight quadricycle in France, one must have reached their 16 th birthday, and two separate cases are defined, based on a driver’s date of birth :> If a driver was born before January 1, 1988 : he/she does not need a licence or a CBT [Class One 2-wheel permit] in order to drive.> If a driver was born after January 1, 1988, then he or she must be a full 16 years old and possess a CBT with the “lightweight quadricycle” option or a normal driving licence (either for automobiles or motorcycles). The CBT “lightweight quadricycle” option involves passing a written test and 5 hours of on-the-road training without the practical exam.

• heavyweight quadricycLes

These may be driven as of age 16 by drivers in possession of a driving licence. This corresponds to the following minimum licence classes : A1, A4, AT, AL and B1 or a “driver’s permit” issued prior to 01/04/58. By equivalence, all Class A, B, C and D licences are admitted.

OUR ROLE IN SOCIETY

AIXAM is attuned to societal needs.

Page 19: Dossier Stampa Aixam

These automobiles have the tremendous advantage of serving people without a driving licence. The grounds for their not having a licence may be permanent (in the case of the elderly), or temporary (for young people under age 18), or accident-based (for people who have had their licence suspended).

In addition, cars not requiring driving licences are just the thing for city life (low space use, consumption and pollution). They offer users much greater safety than that of two-wheel vehicles.

In fact, analyses of accidents are clear on this point : quadricycles are the class of vehicles that causes the fewest accidents involving bodily injury (ratio of cars on the road to number of people killed and injured).

Beyond safety considerations, their societal role is highly significant. There is even good reason for them to become more and more popular in rural areas. Migration to the cities, and the disappearance of nearby businesses in small towns in favour of supermarkets, are forcing people to travel ever longer distances. At the same time, public transport, not proving to be cost-effective, is waning.

Cars not requiring a driving license thus provide users with the means to be fully independent.

In recent years, the number of licence-free cars has grown substantially and they are now seen in normal use.

“For most people, a licence-free car becomes an essential acquisition and provides a new lease on life.”

It provides a key to mobility that they can no longer live without. In France, there are more than 140,000 of these cars in use, even to the point where it is not uncommon to find vehicles with more than 100,000 km on the odometer.

“The light car is a loophole for traffic offenders.”Despite increasingly strict enforcement of traffic laws and its impact on driving licence owners in terms of penalty points, those with cars not requiring a driving licence have seen no startling change. In 2008-2009, 93.4 % of the people driving Aixam Mega automobiles not requiring a driving licence had, in fact, never possessed a driving licence. Only 3.4 % of the users have turned to this type of vehicle following suspension of their licence.

One notes that the users of vehicles not requiring a driving licence abide by the law, in contrast to drivers who, after losing their licence, continue to drive their cars.

For major violations, the courts may additionally prohibit the use of any motor vehicle.

“It is often said that vehicles not requiring a driving licence neglect the safety aspect.”In 2009, there were 82,208 victims (deaths + injuries, not including pedestrians) of traffic accidents in continental France. Only 311 victims* were users of cars not requiring a driving licence, i.e. 0.38%. Out of 3,777 deaths, 2,160 were caused by automobiles (57%), 888 by motorcycles (23%) and 299 by mopeds (8%). There were 21 deaths in cars not requiring a driving licence, i.e. 0.56%, two of whom were passengers.

“Nothing more than a cliché: cars for the elderly.”The undeserving object of clichés, cars not requiring a driving licence no longer symbolise a senior citizen behind the wheel. In point of fact, 64.9 % of drivers are in the active work force or students, and only 35.1 % are retirees.

“licence-free cars are heavy polluters”Working with Kubota, for its diesel engines, and with Lombardini, for its petrol engines, Aixam has developed an entire line of motors noted for their very low fuel consumption and for the lowest CO

2 emissions in their class.

It should be pointed out that Aixam offers some of the best rated vehicles on the market in terms of CO

2 emissions. Only

77,9 g/km, which is 37 % less CO2 than the average target of

125 g/km set by the European Parliament. Parlement Européen.

For Aixam, the environment has

always been a major concern. This

priority drives us to continuously

seek the best in engine performance,

aerodynamics and recyclability for

our vehicles. Working with Kubota,

for its diesel engines, and with

Lombardini, for its petrol engines,

Aixam has thus developed an entire

line of motors noted for their very

low fuel consumption and for the

lowest CO2 emissions in their class.

In actual fact, Aixam has attained record performance levels and confirmed its leadership, with CO

2

emissions that are 37 % lower than the average target of 125 g by 2015 set by the European Parliament for private cars.

Aixam is always one lap ahead of the pack !

Our design factors also actively contribute to this on-going concern to protect the environment. By

making its cars as aerodynamic as possible, Aixam pulls out all the stops to offer you vehicles that combine great aesthetics and envi-ronmental protection.

And lastly, since protecting Nature also involves reprocessing what we produce, Aixam has designed vehicles that are close to 100 % recyclable !

As Aixam sees it, protecting the envi-ronment is another form of freedom.

The fuel consumption and CO2 emis-

sions of any vehicle are determined

not only by its power output, but

also by how it handles and other non-

technical factors. Information on fuel

consumption and CO2 emissions may

be obtained at the ADEME Web site :
