Tripod

The Tripod is mainly used for control of the camera so that the person using the camera can have some guidance and stability during filming.  By using the arm on the tripod you are able to create different camera angles such as high angle or low angle effects. The most obvious feature to the tripod is that you have the ability to set the height of the camera allowing you to have desired shot.

Our group could use the tripod to create different angles including wide angles, which would make our trailer more successful and professional looking. We will also have the control to shoot scenes in the way we desire with great precision.

However, when using the tripod

there are some limitations to

consider such as, the lack of

control when doing very low or

very high angles. This usually has

the tripod in the way, which is why

we have the option of using the

Velbon Sherpa 450R. This tripod

would allow you to do the features

you are unable to do. Another

limitation is that with a push or a

gust of wind, the tripod could

move out of place or even fall

over, making you set up the scene

again. Again the height of the

tripod is also limited as the legs

only have a certain height to

extend to.

The Studio lighting is usually placed behind

the white/black sheets. These lights are

triggered with the infra red signals sent when

the camera shot has been taken. The lights

flash simultaneously to produce a bright, well

lit and shadow free picture. This is very good

for when you want a clean shot and provide

you with a bright picture. However, we also

have the option of using just the lights

without the blankets, meaning it would be

more portable and easier to create different

effects in our trailer. This would provide us

with more control over the lighting allowing a

sense of continuity.

The Studio Lighting is great for when you are

filming in the dark and want light in certain

areas as the lights can be placed anywhere,

behind or in front of the sheets to create

different effects. We could also use it when

trying to produce an establishing shot for our

protagonist character and also for our

ancillary task, to take pictures for the film

magazine cover.

On the other hand, there are some

limitations when using this equipment

such as, you would only be able to

use it in doors as the studio would

have to be specially set up.

Considering other groups who wish to

also use the facility we would have to

make a time slot for when we are

allowed to use the equipment,

suggesting we would only be

allocated a certain period of time.

Further to this, because it is a studio,

there will be limited space,

suggesting that the number of people

in the shot is limited. When using the

lights by its self, we would be able to

take it out of class but would not be

able to take it outside as the cable

would be short unless an extension is

used.

Pag L

The Pag Light is a small hand held light

which is very portable. It has several

settings for different effects of lights. For

example you would be able to have soft,

hard or medium lighting done by attached

filters. This is good as it allows you to create

a desired effect of lighting to your work and

can also produce a natural feel to the

picture/video. It can also be attached to the

camera so that the lighting would follow the

camera allowing it to be more stable and

with a flow. Pag lights are great for when

lighting is needed in certain areas and bring

out the protagonists character.

It works well filming in the dark allowing you

to create the light effect you want.

However, a huge flaw would be that it takes

8 hours to charge therefore a notice would

have to be given so it would be able to

charge overnight. The wire may also be

small restricting you to reach your character

or object.

The Snow and Smoke machine

are great to use when filming

to a specific atmosphere. They

allow you to create various

weather conditions quickly

and easily, providing

continuity throughout your

trailer. They do not require

much maintenance and can

be used anywhere. However,

the only limitation is that you

need to plug it into mains for

its use. This would mean you

cannot be outside unless

extension cables are used.
