When is New Year celebrated in Finnland?

By ancient Finnish tradition New Year comes from December 31 of January 1.

Tradition New Year: People in Finnland grow turnips, they keep them during the whole year till they grow new ones.

Joulupukki. Most people are attracted by Santa Clause's ( or Joulupukki's, as Finns call him) homeland named Lapland. Thousands of people come to Lapland in hope to meet the real Joulupukki.

New Year celebrations. Many people spend the evening celebrating with their family and friends, either at home or attending the numerous New Year's parties in restaurants and nightclubs. Others may spend the evening comfortably at home, watching the colourful fireworks cracking across the skies outside, starting as the midnight approaches.

New Year`s festival of snow and ice. One more important event in Finland is a New Year's festival of snow and ice which is well-known in the whole world and is regularly held for many years. Masters of ice sculptures model so realistic figures, that it is difficult to believe that they are made of ice. But the most exotic that attracts annually thousands of people are the real iceapartments or ice hotel. Even drinks and food in this ice hotel are served in special ice wine glasses and plates.

New Year`s gifts in Finnland.Finns pay much attention to choosing gifts for their families and friiends. Christmas markets offer a huge range of goods and cater for different tastes.

New Year`s table. Christmas dishes at Finland are very delicious. Main traditional dish boiled codfish is served. Dinner is followed by snowy white and fluffy, roast suckling pig and vegetables. Allspice, boiled potatoes and cream sauce is taken as supported dishes. Children go to bed just after dinner and younger get busy with chat with cup of coffee.

WORK AFTER NEW YEAR'S VACATION.

January, 2 is a working day for people in Finland. Though Finns believe in miracles, they support their belief working hard.
