HOW TO INSTALL KEYLOGGER FOR
UBUNTU 12.04
WINDOWS vs. UBUNTU
• Most Windows keyloggers are malware and use their
own keyloggers (mostly free)
• Most free keyloggers for Windows hide their features
behind paywalls.
• Ubuntu keyloggers have no paywalls
• Most Ubuntu free keyloggers are not malware
Keyloggers, Windows vs. Ubuntu
LKL
• Last updated 2013
• Less User Friendly
LKL(Linux Key Logger) vs. LogKeys
LogKeys
• Last updated 2010
• More User Friendly and Easier to Configure
• Recent updates to Ubuntu require some configuration to get started
For simplicity go with LogKeys
• Can be found here: https://code.google.com/p/logkeys/
• To install from source need to build installation itself
• Type following command to get essential building tools
$ sudo apt-get install build-essential
If you’ve ever installed any software from source before you can skip this step
Setup
This is not recommended, but…
1. Visit https://code.google.com/p/logkeys/
2. Download .tar.gz file and extract it
3. Open command line
4. Go into the folder you extracted your data in
5. Follow each command listed to the right…
Downloading with GUI
Each line is a separate command.
$ ./configure
$ make
$ sudo make install
$ sudo locale-gen
Find the right directory through the command line…
***Recommended Solution***
$ wget https://logkeys.googlecode.com/files/logkeys-0.1.1a.tar.gz
$ tar xvzf logkeys-0.1.1a.tar.gz$ cd logkeys-0.1.1a
$ ./configure$ make
$ sudo make install
the "logkeys-0.1.1a.tar.gz" is the latest version available
Installing Through Command Line
Just run the following command…
$ sudo apt-get install logkeys
There are reports of the apt-get package being broken, doing it from the sources (two methods above) is still the preferred method.
