& AMIT
AMIT &PUNIT
Punit Mehra was an Executive in an Auto MNC. He was very jovial and highly popular as friendly with all. He with another colleague of his, Amit Kapoor worked on a self initiated project. They prepared a Special Edition model to be launched in the Festival season to generate excitement in the market. The Sales Regional Managers, the Sales Director were all happy to see the new model and requested for an early launch. Both Amit and Punit pressed the Project accelerator pedal. The Vendors were sounded, Logistics was tied up and all was set for launch within 1 week.
4 days before the launch, there was a Dealer – Manufacturer Meeting to discuss some Sales issues. It was decided that this Special Edition be shown to the Dealers to boost their confidence. While most dealers liked the concept, Mr.Anil, one of the very strong dealers, rejected the Special Edition outright and even ridiculed Amit and Punit for having conceived such an idea ! The Management developed doubts about success and immediately withdrew support from the Project.
Amit and Punit were shocked. Punit went back home – a frustrated man. He grabbed the whisky bottle for solace and drank a lot over the weekend. He tried his best to help his 10 year old son in his school assignment but his mind would not let him work with concentration. He decided to put in his papers next week and called up Amit to reveal his thoughts to him. Amit heard him out patiently and resumed his weekend spiritual activities. Nothing seemed to have changed for Amit between the last Sunday and this Sunday.
Punit did not feel like going to office on Monday morning. He felt discouraged to initiate any new projects. Amit, on the other hand, was his usual bright self. Later when the new year started, Amit got a Promotion while Punit had to make do with an accelerated increment. He felt cheated – he had always been totally committed to whatever he did, more than anyone else. But here was Amit, a person who undoubtedly was also good at work but not as committed and attached to his work as Punit, getting a reward which Punit could not get.
Describe your feelings for Punit.
Why do you think Amit got rated better ?
What was the basic difference between the two of them ??
