Social network hiring against Life “Social network”
It`s formal and widely operated on HR level of any company around the world (will mostly all of it) to use the newer
technologies in their own work force management such as using the Social network sites such as LinkedIn, Facebook or
even Twitter or direct hiring websites to discover new talents whom may be suitable for the needs of the company, HR
hiring and sorting the CV`s functions now is now a much faster and easier compared to the pre internet era and going
through all those papers and files containing all that information to be read and analyzed !
The post internet era has removed this nightmare of wasting the time, effort and money, no one can deny it.
But in some situations the lack of trust of the information posted on those sites by job seekers drives the companies to a
more trustful source of another methods such as “word of mouth” in where the company would rely on a hand given CV
from one of their own employees (referred by) corroborating him as the man they are looking for!
That does happen especially when the position itself is a sensitive to the company such as managerial positions and
higher and with higher money losses to the company on hand for payroll, training, benefits and the continues work flow
and so on, but we has to ask is this is an enough reason to lake the trust of social networking sites?
Now if we have to talk about where that happens I would say the Arabic business world does have lack of trust while
looking at other more tech orientated business in other countries they have the complete trust of relying these
functions on the internet as they have a safety net of screening all the candidates through key words with in the CV itself
to make sure he/she do have the exact key capacity of tasks required by the company which most websites now have
searching algorithms to define those skills, education, experience and so on keywords , then the final rundown is made
after the interviews.
As an Arab I do still think we are mostly skeptical about hiring hob seekers through the internet as the internet concept
is still somehow in the entertainment category for watching videos, sending mails, and the social networking is still at
conceiting family and friends together at most and to keep money making business orientated tasks at a tangible rate,
so given that we feel more relaxed at the old fashioned ways by HR wasting time going through piles of CV`s handed or
Faxed (yes we still use those things!) or have a “peek” at the web applications database just out of curiosity, but at the
end of the day we ask around our work associates and friends if they know someone “good” for the new opening!!
Of course to be in a more objective about it, some of the large enterprises do rely very heavily on the internet for their
needs due to their world wide association with other multibillion companies whom use this method of hiring, but for the
more local oriented companies they do fit the profile of this article!
I do find it frustrating as a job seeker but I do have hope that one day we would give the new technologies the benefits
of doubt, as a friend of mine would say: “if we got and paid for all this technologies, let’s just use it!!” … Amen to that
