Listening Section

In this section of the test, you will have the chance to show how well you

understand spoken English. There are 3 parts to this section, with special

directions for each part.

Part 1

Questions 1 to 5

Directions:

In this part of the test, you will hear some dialogues or questions spoken in English.

The dialogues or questions will be spoken two times. They will not be printed in

your test books, so you must listen carefully to understand what the speakers say.

After your hear a dialogue and the question about it, read the four possible answers

and decide which one would be the best answer to the question you have heard.

Now listen to a sample question.

You will hear:

Man : Excuse me sir, what can I do for you?

Woman : Oh, yes. Could you get me the other brown shoe on the second shelf,

please? I want to try them both.

One day Nasreddin borrowed a pot from his neighbor Ali. The next

agreed, hoping that he would once again receive two pots in return.

However, days passed and Nasreddin had still not returned the pot.

Finally Ali lost patience and went to demand his property. Nasreddin

said sorry because he couldnt return it. The pot was dead. Died!

screamed Ali, how can a pot die? Well, said Nasreddin, you

believed me when I told you that your pot had had a baby.

Seals, sea lions and walruses live both on land or on ice, they are

very clumsy in their movements. But in the water they swim

gracefully. They all leave the water for land or ice fields to give birth

to their young.

The dolphins and the sea cows are sea mammals. Dolphins and

porpoises look alike but usually the dolphins are larger. These

animals are mainly fish eaters. Experiment show that dolphins are

Borobudur is a Hindu-Budhist temple built in the 9th century under



the Syailendra dynasty in Java. It is located near Magelang on the

island of Java, Indonesia.

Abandoned in the 11th century and partially excavated by

archaeologists in the early 20th century. Borobudur temple is well-

known all over the world.

Influenced by Gupta architecture of India, the temple is constructed

on a hill of 46 m (15o ft) high and consists of eight-step like stone

terraces, one on top of the others.

The first five terraces are square and surrounded by walls adorned

with Budhist sculpture in bas-relief; the upper three are circular, each

with a circle of bee-shaped stupas (Budhist-shrines).

The entire edifice is crowned by a large stupa at the centre of the top

circle. The way to the summit extends through some 4.8 km of

passages and stairways.

The design of Borobudur, a temple-mountain, symbolizing the

structure of the universe, is similat to the temples built at Angkor,

Cambodia.

The Borobudur temple, rededicated as an Indonesian national

monument in 1983, is a valuable treasure for Indonesian people.

we enter the culture.

You know, America tend to speak directly. When they disagree with

someone, foe example, they will directly express that. It is different

from us. We tend to be indirect when saying about what we want.

Second, differences in dealing with personal distance. Well,

Americans tend to require more personal than we do, which means

they dont like standing too close to the people they are speak ing to.

This might be offending, but actuallyits an Americans custom.

Thus, we can say that we need to know the culture of a country

before going there.

The ethical issue about cheating is perhaps as old as education it

self. The whole discussing generally ends with the question of

whether cheating or letting others to cheat us during an exam is

ethically wrong. Concerning the latter, there have been two opposing

sides of opinion.

Some people say that letting other to cheat is ethically right. They

say they need to help one another. If other people let us copy their

works, then there is a good reason to give similar assist to them.

They also argue that if they can not do a test, that is not any way

their fault. In fact, they dont believe the test. Tests according to

them mean nothing. So cheating doesnt matter at all.

Meanwhile, those oppose the practice mutual cheating regard the

habits as unacceptable, and will do not good to others. They say

people will not learn for themselves if we always allow them to cheat

us. Cheating each others work will make everyone get similar results

and that sort of results will certainly be misleading. They who do not

agree with letting other to cheat believe in helping themselves and

argue others to do their own work .

There is no final answer as to whether letting others to cheat is

ethically or socially wrong. In fact, the practice of cheating is still

common, and may have become a custom or habit, and even a

serious problem in many classrooms as in many classes.
