HOW TO CHANGE THE OIL IN YOUR CAR

Page 5: RPP Bhs. Inggris

There are many ways that you can do in order to make your car running well. One of

them is changing the car’s engine oil and filter frequently. The changing process can be done

when there is contamination done by other chemicals unsure. It can also be done depends on

the driving habits of the owner, it can be every 3 months or 3000 miles or can be as long as

24 months or 20.000 miles. Below are the easy steps in changing your car’s oil.

1. First of all, prepare all the equipments and supplies (e.g. plug, filter, socket, wrench,

ratchet, grip, oil pan, etc) under your car in order to ease you to gain them. Be careful

with the hot engine!

2. Open the hood of the car and also the oil filler cap on the top of the engine in order to

ease you to drain the old oil. Then, put the drain plug on the oil pan and place it at the

back of the car engine to catch the oil runoff.

3. The next step is using the socket or wrench to loosen the plug counter. Sometimes, if

the bolt is tight, you can use more leverage like a pipe segment on your ratchet

handle. Be careful not to drop the plug into the oil, because it will be a hard job to

find the plug in the black stuff. If you drop it in the pan, it can be found with a magnet

which is at the end of an expandable rod.

4. The fourth step is replacing the filter. Put off the old filter and then install a new filter

in a good position. There are many notes that you should remember, such as;

a. You have to make sure that the rubber gasket ring comes off with the filler. It

is because when you leave it inside the new filter will not close rightly and

will leak.

b. Dip the tip of your finger in the new oil and smear it on the gasket ring of the

new filter after installing it.

5. Replace the drain plug on the oil pan. Don't forget to install a replacement gasket or

washer. Start threading it with your fingers and it should be snug,

6. This would be a good time to wipe any debris or buildup off the surface where the

gasket will seat. One thing that should be noticed about it is that screw on the new

filter but be careful with the threads. Then make sure also to replace all of them

without any leak. The tight of the screw will be depend on the how it is needed.

7. The next step is you should add new oil to the car at the fill hole. The amount you

need is in the owner's manual, usually listed under "capacities". It commonly depends

on the car’s capacities, it can be 3.5 – 4 litres

8. Replace the fill cap, check around for tools and close the hood.

Page 6: RPP Bhs. Inggris

9. Start the engine for a minute, watching to be sure the oil pressure light goes off after

start-up. It has a purpose on checking the tight of the filler in order not to cause leak.
