Theme of 3rd discussion : Design of The Tension member
1. Determine the nominal tension strength of the W section which connected by plates at its
two flanges, as shown below. There are three bolts along each connection line in the
direction of loading.
The W sections are:
Groups 1-4: W 14x82 in BJ37 steel with 3/4 in. diameter Bolts
Groups 5-8: W 14x74 in BJ37 steel with 5/8 in. diameter Bolts
Groups 9-12: W 14x68 in BJ34 steel with 7/8 in. diameter Bolts
Groups 9-12: W 14x61 in BJ34 steel with 1/2 in. diameter Bolts
2. Design a plate as tention member to support a total ultimit loading of:
Groups 1-4: 100 KN. Use BJ 41 steel.
Groups 5-8 : 70 KN. Use BJ 37 steel.
Groups 9-12 : 60 KN. Use BJ 34 steel.
Groups 13-14 : 80 KN. Use BJ 50 steel.
3. Hitunglah luas bersih yang menentukan dan kapasitas (ΦNn) dari sambungan untuk profil batang tarik seperti gambar di bawah ini! Profil batang tarik: L 6 x 4 x 3/4; Diameter baut: ½”
